Choice Hygiene

Form Ranger duplicate choices: clean the list before respondents see it

A technically valid update can still publish a bad list. Detect exact duplicates, case variants, whitespace problems, and look-alike labels before writing to Google Forms.

Independent guide: FormSuite Choice Sync is not affiliated with New Visions Cloudlab's Form Ranger.

Four problems that look like “duplicates”

Exact repeat

EMEA appears twice. Duplicate removal can safely collapse the repeated display value.

Case variant

Sales and sales may be accidental or may carry different meaning for your process.

Whitespace variant

Leading, trailing, or repeated spaces can produce labels that look identical to respondents.

Near duplicate

North America and north-america need human review, not silent source rewriting.

What to inspect in Preflight

  1. Source row count versus final choice count.
  2. The exact respondent-facing choice list after trim, sort, and duplicate settings.
  3. Exact duplicate groups and how many rows created them.
  4. Look-alike labels that require an owner decision.
  5. Added, removed, and unchanged choices compared with the current Form question.
  6. The public preview after Update now.

Why this differs from a blind refresh

FormSuite Choice Sync shows the post-cleanup list and the before/after difference without editing the source Sheet. If duplicate removal is disabled and exact duplicates remain, Preflight blocks the update. Near duplicates stay visible as warnings because the tool cannot safely guess your business meaning.

Keep these questions separate

A choice-sync add-on is not suitable for live availability, reservations, payments, or respondent-time filtering. It also blocks target questions that contain section routing or quiz answer keys because rebuilding those choices can erase attached behavior.
