Closed-form messaging

What to show when a Google Form is full

When a Google Form reaches capacity, the message people see matters almost as much as the limit itself. A vague "no longer accepting responses" notice creates confusion. A better message explains what happened, what the respondent should do next, and whether another path is still available.

What a strong closed message should include

State the current status clearly

Tell visitors whether the form is full, closed by deadline, or temporarily paused.

Set expectations

Explain whether more spots may open, whether a waitlist exists, or whether submissions are permanently closed.

Offer a next step

Link to a waitlist, support inbox, alternate form, or event page when relevant.

Keep the message short

Visitors should understand the outcome in a few seconds without reading an essay.

Simple message example

This form is no longer accepting responses because all available spots have been filled. If additional space opens, we will update this page. If you still need help, contact {{Contact Email}}.

Waitlist-friendly message example

Registration is currently full. If you would like to join the waitlist, please use this link: {{Waitlist Link}}. We will contact people on the waitlist if space becomes available.
The best message depends on the actual operator workflow. If you do not have a waitlist or alternate path, do not imply one.
